"Mieruka" (Visualization) Solutions

Reducing Inventories and Promoting Just-in-Time (JIT) Production and Delivery

Accurately grasping the flow of goods in all processes, from raw material procurement to manufacturing and shipment, helps reduce inventory and enables just-in-time (JIT) production and delivery, which in turn significantly reduces the total cost of logistics. The solution was launched when a certain wholesale food company implemented the "Mieruka" Warehouse Management System @ web at its stand-alone commissioned distribution center to precisely manage the expiry date of food products.
General Manager Yoshinobu Kanamaru with the Business Development & Promotion Group of e-Logistics Solutions Company, Yamato System Development Co., Ltd. elaborates on the aim of the solution, "An important aspect of inventory control is the management of expiry dates. Although this company had not made the mistake of delivering products for which their expiry date had passed, it did not adequately practice first in, first out inventory management and so shipped products with an earlier expiry date after products with a later expiry date." Prior to the implementation of this solution, there was on average of 50 inquiries a month to confirm the expiry date of products, but this number has since been reduced drastically after starting the use of the "Mieruka" Warehouse Management System @ web.

This wholesale food company plans to use the "Mieruka" Warehouse Management System @ web at its distribution centers throughout Japan and utilize "Mieruka" Distribution Process Optimization @ web to uniformly manage inventories at each distribution center in the future. This way, not only can it ensure products are shipped in the order they are stocked, but the company can also significantly reduce inventories.
Furthermore, the company is considering the visualization of inventories at its trading partners' stores in the future. If this becomes a reality, then merchandise control based on the actual sales volume would become possible, allowing the company to control distribution inventory in a more sophisticated way.
